This movement is supported by a range of social and wellness initiatives, including sober events, alcohol-free bars, and communities that provide mutual support and alternative social experiences. The sober curious lifestyle encourages mindfulness about drinking, allowing individuals to make more informed choices about their relationship with alcohol, often leading to a more balanced and health-conscious way of living.

Particularly vulnerable were individuals already predisposed to mental health issues, healthcare workers facing intense pressures, and those experiencing financial hardships. The pandemic underscored the critical need for mental health resources and interventions to address the widespread psychological effects of prolonged isolation .
