 A manifestation determination is a meeting where parents of a student with an IEP and school staff review relevant information about the child and answer two questions: 1. Was the behavior caused by, or have a direct and substantial relationship to the child's disability?

What is the purpose of a manifestation determination?

The Manifestation Determination (MD) meeting is held to evaluate a student's misconduct, determine whether the misconduct is a manifestation of the student's disability, and determine if  the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) was being fully implemented at the time of the misconduct.
