National teachers unions have been sounding the alarm on what they've termed “an unprecedented staffing crisis across every job category.” The 3 million-member National Education Association released polling in February that showed 55% of educators indicate they are ready to leave the profession.

Nationwide, public schools are facing difficulty retaining and hiring new teachers. This comes as many teachers are on their way out of the classroom, blaming burnout from the pandemic and low pay for the mass exodus. “It's not going to stop schools from opening, but it may create less margin for error
Increase Funding for Teachers and Schools

Federal or state grants might draw more prospective teachers to preparation programs in academic areas where there is a scarcity of teachers. Federal programs for college loan forgiveness might encourage more teachers to look for jobs in high-needs schools.
