Take students to the beach and learn first hand about loggerhead turtles teach the tracks to identify

Can you touch loggerhead sea turtles?
Sea turtles are protected and must be respected: Stay back and give sea turtles space if you see one on the beach at night. Don't touch a nesting turtle because it may leave the beach without nesting if disturbed. Remember, it is illegal to harm or disturb nesting sea turtles, their nests, eggs or hatchlings
Why They Matter. The way loggerhead turtles feed on their hard-shelled prey recycles important nutrients and keeps ocean floor sediments in balance. Loggerhead turtles carry colonies of small plants and animals on their shells which serve as important habitat themselves
Increasing pollution of nearshore and offshore marine habitats threatens all sea turtles. Loggerhead turtles may die after ingesting fishing line, plastic bags and other plastic debris, floating tar or oil, and other materials discarded by humans which they can mistake for food
What Can You Do to Protect Sea Turtle Habitat?
  1. Reduce marine debris that may entangle or be accidentally eaten by sea turtles.
  2. Participate in coastal clean-ups and reduce plastic use to keep our beaches and ocean clean.
  3. Carry reusable water bottles and shopping bags.
  4. Keep nesting beaches dark and safe for sea turtles
