     Summary

. Research shows that allowing students to get support from school staff can assist the grief and beyond. The teacher can integrate lessons and use strategies in the classroom before losses occur. Students with disabilities historically have gotten less support in this area

The grief process for students with disabilities is still personal and complex but there is less research that examines the grief process and the supports that student with disabilities need. Students with disabilities do experience grief but they have been often not included in the funerals not getting assistance in the processing of their emotions and even sometimes not told about the loss. During this time the students have a hard time communication and may exhibit challenging behavior this sometimes goes unrecognized for what is the root cause by family teacher or caretakers we need more research in this area of what is needed by the student with disabilities.

Empathy

Listening

Counseling

Strategies

·         Build a team

·         Consider using the right world so describe permanent and temporary

·         Don’t take it personally id they do not respond back appropriately

·         Support understanding and any opportunity to express feelings use a variety of formats including visual

·         Honor routines  Do not abandon the routines or cancel activities

·         Keep the students included in the rituals

·         Coping and calming skills

·         Allow memory books

·         Awareness of changes in behavior

Since the research shows that students benefit from getting support during times of loss the support should be done by a team at the school this will include inclusion in the rituals keeping the routines together and normalized helping the child process the loss and cope .doing this will assist the child in their entire life od that they have the skills.
